The Little Things

In the rush and tumble, in this July heat, its easy to lose focus looking through the humidity at the lakefront, seeing the sailboats. Gosh they look so cool, so relaxed, so away from everything.

Summer sunshine makes me tired, even as the days get shorter bit by bit. Like a cat I want to sleep away the weekend. I want to read a book. I want to keep cool and feel free.

I want to make the summer last forever. Blue sky, big and beautiful, stay with me. Please, please, please, please, please.

I want summer to last forever. I don’t mind the heat. I like warm weather.

So I skip my nap today. I take a walk. I look down. I see a flower. Flowers always capture my imagination. Then a lady bug helps me remember.

Joy isn’t just the big, blue, summer sky. It’s in the little things.

Making summer last ... to stop time ... to keep the joy and summer freedom with us forever. AHHHHHHHHHHHH! Now THAT is a desire I can agree with! However ... ladybugs do not make me smile! LOL We were invaded with them last fall and when you see your white walls turn to orange with black dots ... and then it starts to move ... well its not exactly fun! They STINK ... and leave yellow stains. Of course they really aren't the ladybugs you are speaking of ... they are the similar, but oh so different, ASIAN lady bugs! I guess I could still smile to stoop down to see a flower and find a TRUE ladybug crawling to greet me!

Hi Mama,
Good Morning!
An invasion I've never heard of that! How amazing. Sounds so incredible! Oh those ugly Asian bug-- those are evil. They ate my beautiful Asian lilies. They're not ladybugs! They have no spots!

Whew! What relief.

Ah, summer and flowers and blue skies. Back here, i can never experience the seasons. It's always hot and humid and sometimes when you are out in the open, suddenly there's a nasty thunderstorm.

yes, it's the little things that make life so interesting. :)

Hi Dsnake,
I'm trying hard to get around more. I miss seeing you. I'm coming over to read your poetry. I need more music in my life.

Like you, Liz, I too am a dreamer.
I yearn for an endless summer filled with numerous rays of golden sunshine.
I find it ironic that I wrote about something very similar this morning on the way into Boston.
I was reminiscing about a summer day with my best buddy back in the summer of '69. I was 10 years old.
Check my blog for the post later tonight. I think you'll see what I mean. Our thought process is frighteningly similar.
Have a serene week, ME...

Hi Michael,
I hope the week has serenity in store for me, but I fear not. My life seems to have other plans than bringing me calm summer days of late.

I'll stop by your blog this evening. I look forward to sharing your thoughts again.

When I was younger (slimmer and non-menopausal LOL) summer was my favorite season, but now that I myself am approaching the autumn of my life, I prefer the cooler days of fall.

Lovely post though - as always!

Hi Marti,
With that thinking, I'm all for any day with air conditioning a bed where I can take a nice afternoon nap. :)

Ahh but these Asian ladybugs look exactly like regular ones ... except that they are more orange than red. Some have no spots, others have a couple ... and some have MANY! They bite too! Nasty things!

Thank you!
That picture of yours always makes me smile.

Yeah, I know the ones! They came close to ruining my garden in Nassachusetts. Evil things. They ate and ate and left awful gush. It took forever to get rid of them and I had three acres of flowers!!

I had to say good-bye to all of my Asian lilies. They like those the best. The poor plants had leaves that were just holes. That's when I started to think chemicals had their uses.
