After the Rain

After the rain has fallen there is a moment, just a glimpse of a second when all of the world stands perfectly silent, when everything seems to stop.

I hear my heart beat. Heartbeats are the sound of waiting water, collecting from raindrops no longer falling. They’re still in my mind with the thoughts that made them come raining down.

Now that I’m quiet and the air is clearer. I see the world again as it truly is -- filled with delicate beauty and wonder. Nothing is wrong or right, in tune or out of sync. Nothing is upside down.

There is only what happens, like the rain. There is only what is.

The sun shines through the drops making a prism, a rainbow of color that wasn't there only a moment ago.

how coincidental, Liz!
it is raining over here as i write this. i was just watching the rain cleaning the roofs and walls of grime.

very soon, the sunshine will be out. the air will smell fresher. as if the world had taken a bath. :)

p.s. there's a lovely image you have there.

I love the way the air smells just after it rains. If I get outside in time, the deep, earthy smell is intoxicating, and transports me to a place and time that is pristine and ancient, but also immediate. It is like the way you describe seeing the world as it truly is.

Thanks for the reminder.

Hi Dawn,
I find it visually intoxicating and calming at the same time. It makes me feel cool and clean from the inside out.

I hope you had a wonderful weekend. I wanted to say hello to everyone on my blogroll, and wish them well, because this was Thanksgiving weekend, and I am grateful for my Internet friends!

Liz, this post in nothing short of pure poetry. If I had read this in a collection of great literture in my English class at university, I would have thought you one of the Greats. A masterpiece, is what this is, in the true sense of that word.

Trée,
Wow. What do I say to that? Thank you. Sincerely.

Betty,
Thank you for coming by to see me. The rain is lovely even when it's falling, but after it falls the world is so beautiful.
