Along the Wall

along the wall
I have hung postcards
each from a different location
each from a different friend
each told a different tale
of a moment in a different life
silent and beautiful
still and full with time
and I pass by them
every day as if I
never knew that they
represent real events
of people I know and love
who have left me
their memories
which I have hung
along the wall
-- me strauss Letting me be

It's difficult to be the keeper of another's memories.I guess they really are like postcards. We have to keep them somewhere outside ourselves, photo-side up, because it's the only place we can access them, and remind ourselves and the other.

It's nice, though, to have the benefit of other folks' dreams and experiences tucked away in our heads and our hearts. They add to the texture of who we are and what we know.

Those memories are outside of use, but once we are told them. They are inside of us as well.
