Books

When I was little I could read very early, but I didn’t have any time for books. Books had beginnings and endings and only one story. What good was that? My head had so many and they were damn good.

My backyard was so full of adventures and pathways to glory. I had so many other important things to do. I had a basement full of music and dancing. A gooseneck lamp microphone bent near any time an important world speech needed speaking. A flashlight held high with a hand could light any world stage. Sneakers were perfect for any international spy's kind of sneaking. Books just sat there with words looking back at me, black boring letters on dulling white pages. How much imagination did all of that take?

Now I read anything I can get my hands on. I read adventures and learn about pathways to glory. I find out about music and dancing and people and places I didn't know then. I've found the magic between and around the letters and in the white spaces.

Maybe my imagination has changed.

Do you still have time for go for a little zen sailing with a friend. You bring the tea and cookies and I'll bring the boat and maybe even the lake too. Sweet dreams when you get that far Liz. :-)

Tree,
I'll always have time to go Zen sailing with a friend who likes tea and cookies. I'll even imagine up a beautiful lake for the occasion.

Your imagination has only matured ... its still the same sweet thing it was! You have just learned the value of books! You were lucky ... you grew up in an atmosphere that obviously encouraged your thoughts and adventurous mind. I wasn't. I loved my parents tremendously, but they were not imaginative people. I had books and read a LOT. I read adult books as soon as I could string together words into sentences.

But imagination ... no. If it didn't lie within pages ... black print on white paper ... and maybe lovely illustrations ... I didn't think it. I make up for it now ... but you truly can't make up for lost time as a child. You indeed WERE and ARE fortunate to have the mind you do! You are an inspiration to me!

May I join you and Tree on your Zen boat? I'll bring along a lace napkins and a flute to play lovely, lilting music as we sail. Or maybe just a lovely bird to do the singing!

No need to ask, of course, you're invited! You might want to read the post in the sidebar called Zen Sailing first. That's the one the started a whole new kind of thinking on this blog and it's the one that Tree is referring to.

I almost agree with you. For me it needs to be a "good" book. There seem to be too many volumes of drivel that I find myself zoning out like I'm watching a bad TV show. But a "good" book...

Ah Jane,
I'm with you on that. A GOOD book, ah yes, a good book has me thinking about it all day. When I'm away from it, I'm still wondering what will be on the next page . . .

Absolutely profound Liz. What a wonderful experience. I will have to try it ... or something similar. I've had dreams in which I too know everything ... where I am aware of my past, present and future and of all things that have or will touch me. I am at peace. BUT those dreams don't come often and they evaporate as soon as my conscious mind starts to reassert itself.

You are a lovely person Mz. Liz!!

ah Mama Mouse,
You've been Zen Sailing. I need to do more of that. I said I was going Zen sailing again didn't I? I was too tired last night I think. Let me try again for one night very soon. It helps to have the music playing when I write. :)
