We all want to be real, but we want to be more usually. So we like to pretend to be more than we are, to keep our dreams alive and to keep from going insane. Kind of like why we go on vacations...which by the way I am back from. Good to see you again Liz.
Welcome back, Janus friend, You were missed. There was a hole in the place where you usually sit.
Yes we do wish to be things we're not. I wonder why it has to be that way? Why can't we love ourselves the way we are? Imagine how much nicer we'd all be.
I'd never thought about that before but it's true isn't it.
My take on life has always been to take what comes at you. Change if you don't like it and if you can't cahnge it then 'create' your own or in some cases you just have to accept what is and make the best of it. (I know about that).
Liz- There are many variations on this theme of self deception. We all comfort ourselves with stale perceptions and habits which may not lead anywhere, but in which we persist, just because we are afraid of change. Pema Chodron often writes of existing without any solid ground, often the only way to open ourselves to these perfidious self lies.
Yes Garnet there are many ways that we all lie to ourselves, but some choose to live a lie rather than to face the truth--that's bigger to me. I can't explain how it's different, but it is. Liz

Liz, how do you pack so much power, insight and wisdom in so few words.
I need to learn less is more, less is more, less is more. lol (see, I still haven't learned it)

Tree,
You need to learn nothing. You are just right as you are.

See it, even did it once.
Hi Autumnstorm,
I suppose we all do it sot some degree. I just find it ironic that our way to pretend something is true is to tell a lie.

Okay way behind in work! Tons to do. Must run.
Hi Jennifer,
I think your way of doing things is a lot healthier than trying to make what isn't so into something that is true.
Thanks for stopping by when you're so busy.

A powerful burst of insight. This hit home.
Hi Easy,
Hope it didn't bring back any sad memories.

Could you give me an example?
Someone who wants so badly to be a musician who won't fash the fact that he can't reach music gets in the way and instead tries to pretend he can.
