In the Air

Have you noticed a certain energy? It’s started happening. Twice this week, the lake’s been blue. Even though people are still wearing jackets, they’re coming out more. They’re on the street. They’re walking around, riding bikes. They’re holding hands and talking to each other. They’re smiling. It’s something special. It’s in the air.

It’s a certain sort of tremulous energy. I keep picturing every 33rd electron in the air giggling.

It’s there, but not quite there for sure. I bet if you hold yourself still, you’d feel it too. Movement, gentle, sweet. A feeling that the sky is clearing. The season’s lifting. I haven’t seen a robin, yet. But spring is coming.

It’s in the air.

I feel it. Im so glad spring is coming. Winter depresses me. The trees are naked and everything looks dead.

Hi Sassy,
Great to see you.
Spring will be a most welcome change for me too. Winter is not my best friend either. I'm right there with you on that one.

Warm breezes and blue skies made a brief appearance in Columbus this week, and the children responded with glee.

Our stream was raging over it's little banks, as the kids sprang from their stale smelling school bus and dashed across the soggy grass, leaving a trail of backpacks, jackets and shoes in their wake.

I video taped their antics as they "shot the rapids" in our plastic sandbox lid.

"Mom! Look! I'm all muddy all over!"
"Mom! I'm soaked from head to toe!"
"Mom! The Frogs are Back!"

My husband was perplexed when he got home and found me happily scrubbing the mud from the carpet. He could not understand why I was not angry at the malevolent munchkin mob.

"Look at this mess! Look at the yard! They killed all the grass! Look at all the shoes and wet socks! I don't even know who these clothes belong too!"

I just smiled and ran a warm bubble bath for my dirty little darlings as the promising sun faded into the chilly night.

Alas, I don't think my better half will ever understand the workings of this woman's mind.

LOL

Hi Kel,
What a fabulous story! Definitely a sign of spring--both the antics of the kids and the response of their mother. Joy is the feeling that comes over us all as winter lifts and lets spring take over.

I have a litle yellow daffodil in the front yard!

(But dang it, they say it is going to snow over the weekend!)

Still...I know it's a-comin'......

Thank you for your wonderful writing and attitude!

Hi Marti,

I love your attitude. That tough little daffodil just might make it through the snow. I'll be rooting for it.

Spring is coming. Don't you forget that for a second!

Yeah! We;ve got blue-green bays AND robins up here, sister! Spring is just around the corner, finally.

And about the "options" -- hear you loud & clear. Glad you're free!

Hey Zilla,

Blue-greens and robins, you are a show-off.

Yeah it's great to be back among the living!
